Officially beginning January 1st, Meli Music will be known as
Harmonic Changes Therapy Services.
So, why the change? When I started Meli Music back in 2013, I was an independent contractor hustling around the greater area of Los Angeles. As the company grew and changed over time, I discovered that the name 'Meli Music' no longer fit the spirit of the company. We gradually evolved into a fully operational LLC with W2 employees, benefits, interns... the whole sha-bang! It felt appropriate to find a name to support our team as a collective. Aside from that, people seeking music services have mistaken us for being a music store and/or only music lessons; and, I can't tell you how many times I have been called 'Meli' (which has actually never been a nickname of mine)!
Additionally, I have always had the grand vision of diversifying the services and support we can provide. But with the name Meli Music, it really limited our reach in letting the community know we also hope to offer non-music, therapeutic services. My dream is to expand services to include Art, Dance, and Drama Therapy, licensed mental health support services, and even Occupational, Physical and/or Speech Therapy. With the new name, it really encompasses all of these therapeutic modalities!
A really good friend of mine designed our logo (and the Meli Music logo as well). As we were brainstorming ideas, I wanted to incorporate a mandala, and she suggested incorporating a dragonfly. There couldn't have been a better symbol! A Dragonfly symbolizes change, transformation, adaptability, and self-realization. The change that is often referred to has its source in mental and emotional maturity and understanding the deeper meaning of life. A Mandala symbolizes the idea that life is never-ending and that everything is connected, Ultimately, people create and look at mandalas to center their body and mind. Both the dragonfly and mandala represent two important elements in our new name and mission statement -- change and connection. This will be the center of everything we do moving forward as a company. We are hoping to continue growing and supporting our communities in Los Angeles, Chicago, and across the country. As we move into the new year -- with a new name and a new look -- we will also be offering new services; so, make sure to keep following us for updates!
